The Story Behind Umber

Umber is named for the earth pigment painters have ground for centuries, and it keeps to that one warm brown. The wool is woven from mixed strands coloured with natural dyes, so the field has a soft grain and shifts in tone from band to band. Woven flat by hand and fringed at both ends, it works from either side.
