Review

It’s my first purchase from Imam Carpets and I’m happy that I found a very reputable and genuine place to shop online without a fear of being cheated in terms of quality.

The Story Behind Nomad

Nomad sets the diamond lattice of Morocco's Berber weavers on a ground of deep indigo, each diamond outlined in a chain of small ivory stones and held between two ladders. Natural dyes give the blue its shifts of tone from row to row, and the hand-knotted pile leans one way, so the indigo deepens as you walk around it.

How it was made

Construction: Hand Knotted
Every knot tied by hand on a loom, then cut to make the pile.
Knot: Ghiordes knot
The symmetrical knot, also called the Turkish knot. The yarn wraps two warp threads, which gives a firm pile.
Density: 50–80 knots per square inch
Knots in every square inch. The higher the count, the finer the detail and the longer the rug takes to knot.
Pile: Plush
Material: Wool

Where it comes from

Made in: Pakistan
Made by: Imam Carpet Co., our own design
Designer: Ahsan Imam
Second-generation head of Imam Carpet Co.
Style: Modern, Moroccan

What to look for

Abrash
Hand-dyed in small batches, so the colour shifts gently across the rug. Rug makers call this abrash.
Natural dyes
Coloured with vegetable dyes.
Light one way, dark the other
The colour looks deeper when you face the pile and lighter from the other end.
